Lexie Wheatley death: Carl Wheatley arrested on suspicion of murdering his four

A single father was today arrested on suspicion of murdering his four-year-old daughter. Carl Wheatley, 30, was tonight being questioned after Alexa, also known as Lexie, was found collapsed. Emergency services went to the two-bedroom house shortly after 9.35am following calls about her welfare. It is believed the youngster had been living with her dad only since Christmas after a bitter custody battle. Carl’s shocked mum Marilyn, 63, said her grand-daughter was a “gorgeous little girl”. She insisted her son would not have hurt his child. She said:

“He is a gorgeous, loving man. My son was so over the moon to be given custody of his daughter. He would never do anything to hurt her. “He didn’t even kn

ow he was her father until a year and a half ago, he wasn’t on the birth certificate. When he found out he sai

Marilyn, who is currently in Spain, said Carl had checks from social services before Alexa went to live with him. She added: “They looked at every aspect of his life, his personality, his home, everything was scrutinised.” Neighbours in the quiet cul-de-sac in Hatfield, Herts, where the Wheatleys lived saw paramedics carry Alexa to an amb

ulance. She died in hospital. One tearful woman,2020第77期跑狗图老 who asked not to be named, said: “When she was carried out, the girl was attached to wires and her skin was pale white. Her hair was wet and her legs were floppy.” Another neighbour reveale

d that Carl quit his job at a local Asda supermarket to look after his girl. She said the dad spent months decorating the home for his daughter after moving to the area last November and went on: “She was a little angel. She was just an inno

He did the house up so she could move in. He seemed quite lonely though.” Another neighbour said: “She was such a pretty little girl. It is a tragedy.” Alexa attended afternoon classes at nearby Howe Dell School. No one there was available for comment. Detectives said the dad and his child were the only people in the house.
